Manaslu Trekking

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is considered one of the finest trekking experiences in Nepal, offering an awe-inspiring journey through the Manaslu Conservation Area and showcasing the majestic beauty of the world’s eighth-highest peak, Mount Manaslu.

For those who have already explored the Annapurna Circuit, the Manaslu Circuit Trek presents an excellent alternative. This 13-day trek begins at Macha Khola and concludes at Beshi Sahar. It can be extended to a 22-day adventure by adding a side trek to the enchanting Tsum Valley.

Nestled between the Annapurna range to the west and Ganesh Himal to the east, the trek provides striking views of some of the most graceful 8,000-meter peaks. Unlike the bustling trails of the Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit, the Manaslu Circuit offers a more secluded experience. It is remote, physically demanding, and yet deeply rewarding with its cultural richness and breathtaking scenery.

The trail takes you from the lush lowlands with their rice and millet terraces, through the dramatic gorges of the Budhi Gandaki River, with its turquoise waters and cascading waterfalls. The suspension bridges on this route are particularly remarkable, both for their height and length. During the monsoon season, minor bridges are often swept away, leaving trekkers to navigate semi-submerged rocks—a true adventure.

Opened to trekkers only in 1992, the Manaslu Circuit retains a pioneering spirit, reminiscent of trekking in Nepal during the 1980s. It’s a trek that rewards physical endurance with spectacular vistas and a profound sense of accomplishment.

The journey gradually leads north to the snowbound Larkya La Pass, near the Tibetan border. At an altitude of 5,167 meters (16,952 feet), the pass is often icy and snow-covered, requiring micro crampons for a safe descent. Trekkers usually begin their ascent at 3 a.m. to reach the highest point before the strong winds pick up mid-morning.

The views from Larkya La Pass are nothing short of extraordinary. Looking back, you’ll see the trail you’ve conquered, but the most breathtaking sights await as you continue westward through a stunning mountain corridor. For those seeking adventure, solitude, and unmatched natural beauty, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
